Solutions to Common ImageIngester Problems                  

Problem	Possible Solution
Generated sidecar (XMP file) contains invalid character. This message appears in the main window.	There is an invalid character in the generated sidecar (XMP file) that is either in the metadata template or in data that was inserted via a macro in the metadata template. Additional information about the context in which the invalid character appears should appear in the main window just above this message. Read the "Entering Special Characters" section on the Technical Notes page for more information.
Error while converting file: "..." This message appears in the main window.	This message means that Adobe DNG Converter has detected a bad raw file. If you're ingesting from a card, try to ingest again. If you get the same error, the other raws on the card may be OK. ImageIngester has already copied the raws on the card to your pre-conversion backup folder, so you have a copy of what was on the card. Then try to use an image rescue utility. Google "image rescue" to find some possibilities. If the bad image file is on your hard drive (that is, you were re-ingesting from a hard drive), either move it from the folder it's in or rename it so it's no longer recognized as a raw file (e.g., change DSC_1234.NEF to DSC_1234.BAD). That will allow Adobe DNG Converter to proceed past it. Then ingest again. To find bad image files, use ImageVerifier (link at left).
ImageIngester refuses to launch on the Mac.	You may be trying to run II or IIP on OS X Version 10.3 or earlier. It requires 10.4 or later.
The MSI installer file won't run on Windows.	You may be trying to install II or IIP on a Windows system earlier than Windows XP, such as Windows 2000. It requires Windows XP or later.
